Dolly Domestic

Market day and my usual blog have all rolled into one this week. After a prolonged artistic spell I have had to redirect my attention to neglected domesticity – urgh! Here’s a few extracts from my diary depicting similar occasions and some corresponding accessories from some UK based shops on Etsy.

Rising Damp

No alarm set for this morning after a very busy weekend at the North Wales Country Fair in Bala. I’d not done a fair before, and didn’t really know what to expect. It certainly took a lot longer to prepare than I had imagined and I can’t believe how tired I feel today, but it was an enjoyable experience. The weather wasn’t too bad, but the ground was quite damp & muddy and my long floaty skirt was suffering from a touch of rising damp! I promised myself a lovely pair of red and black Muck Boots once I’d sold a print – two sold in quick succession on Sunday, but by then they had sold out of my size! Whilst talking to people on my stand I was also painting a champion foxhound called Marshall. Sometimes there were half a dozen or more pairs of eyes behind me – quite disconcerting to start off with, but I got used to it. So fingers crossed that all the positive comments and interest turn into commissions over the next few weeks & months.

Go, go, go

Well, I’ve enjoyed 12 months of freedom (and poverty!) and loved every minute of it. My list of “things to do” has evolved rather than shrunk and now consists of new challenges, rather than never ending chores. However, a bit of structure is required and a lot more painting! I’ve been accepted for The Great Liverpool Art Show and will need a stall full of paintings to sell, so it’s go, go, go for the next few weeks. This week though, I've been working on Humphrey.

Sunny Weymouth

Our adventures took us to Weymouth this weekend to visit friends, with the added Olympic bonus. There was a fantastic atmosphere and plenty of photo opportunities. We escaped the crowds for a day and enjoyed a windy pub lunch and a walk on the coast. Whilst my husband had a snooze, I did this little painting with my pochade. I'm not very quick with my oils "plein air" as yet, so within the space of an hour's painting the scene changed from foreboding clouds and darkened seas to glorious blue skies and silvery waves. As a consequence the end result perhaps looks more like a day in February than August, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to do a lot more of these in the future.
